What is AT&T FirstNet?

In response to the emergency communication challenges faced by first responders in the wake of 9/11, the First Responder Network Authority was established in 2012. Housed within the Department of Commerce, National Telecommunications and Information Administration, the First Responder Network Authority was tasked with overseeing the creation and delivery FirstNet – a broadband public safety network that was built with AT&T to help first responders save lives and protect US communities. FirstNet Advantages Available nationwide to first responders, such as fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services and emergency managers, FirstNet offers a multitude of advantages. Priority and Preemption Guaranteed priority and preemption over a secure, robust network are two of the most crucial benefits of this network. During an incident, commercial networks are often flooded with traffic that can hamper emergency response and result in slow connections and failed calls. FirstNet puts first responders in the “fast lane” by providing them with first access to necessary resources through the automatic preemption capabilities of the network, ensuring they can properly communicate in every emergency. Network Security When sharing mission-critical or sensitive data, network security is extremely important. FirstNet is built with end-to-end encryption, offers identification credentialing solutions as well as provides 24/7/365 monitoring through a dedicated Security Operation Center that protects critical data, applications and services running over the network. Asset Tracking and Location Services During a critical emergency, it’s not always easy to track first responders while they’re in the field. With FirstNet’s “always on” connection, it helps public safety agencies better dispatch and track personnel, tools and resources in real time. Push-to-Talk Emergency communications are enhanced with FirstNet’s “push-to-talk” features. What does this mean? Subscribers can create and manage one-on-one or multiple talk groups and channels for specific personnel and because the network is built to carry high-speed data, including video and images, resulting in faster and more coordinated responses. Customer Support Trained AT&T FirstNet customer support personnel are available 24/7/365 to provide service, technical or billing support. The AT&T FirstNet Community Becoming a FirstNet subscriber not only provides you with dedicated connection with FirstPriority, but it also allows you to join a growing community of first responders and emergency personnel. In a recent article published by AT&T FirstNet, the Company announced it has surpassed 600,000+ connections being used by more than 7,250 public safety agencies. The network also consistency performs over 25% faster than any commercial network.* The Difference is Clear The Wireless Experience – an AT&T Authorized Retailer – is proud to offer AT&T FirstNet services to first responders in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Maryland.
